Photos: Squeeze at Roseland Ballroom

Roseland Ballroom, NYC, 4.28.12 – Squeeze, one of my favorite bands from my teens, came to New York City’s Roseland Ballroom and sold the place out like it was 1982.  Sounding as good as ever, and touring in support of their new release Live from the Fillmore, and their 2010 release Argybargy, here are my live music photos of Squeeze.

Other music photographers will know this story too well.  These shoots never go as planned.  No one is as prepared at the venue as you are.  When I first arrived I was handed a photo pass but no ticket.  At some venues, photographers are not required to have a ticket.  At Roseland, you need one.  I was supposed to be on Squeeze’s list and had to pull out my iPhone to show the email from the PR firm.  By the time it was cleared up, the opener, The English Beat, was already on stage.  After shooting The English Beat, I hung around and listened to their set and then made my way back into the pit for Squeeze.  Well, security didn’t think any photographers were supposed to be in the pit and we had to wait around until they cleared it up, which was about 30 seconds into the first song.

Squeeze are the 20 somethings they were back when they made their mark on the scene, but they gave a good show to photograph.  The lighting was generally very good and they had some good emotion on stage.  I shot this show at iso 3200 only because my camera bodies allowed me to and kept my shutter speeds as high as 1/500th.  Thank you Roseland lighting.
