Mercury Lounge, NYC, 3.26.12 – Live music photos of Tribes at Mercury Lounge. Tribes is a modern rock band from the UK and when I found out they were coming to the US for a tour I was excited. When I found out it was Mercury Lounge, I was confused. I thought by now these guys would be playing venues like Bowery Ballroom or the Music Hall of Williamsburg. They are just too good to be playing venues as small as Mercury Lounge. Then I question my own judge of talent. I guess my role in this industry would be a different one if I had some sort of eye for spotting talent. But I stick by my love of them, and I am just happy to see them in a venue this small…for now. Touring in support of their just released full length album, Baby, here my photos of Tribes at Mercury Lounge.
When you hear you are covering a show at Mercury Lounge you usually cringe. It’s a tiny venue with lighting that is not ideal for photography. Today’s modern bodies make it a bit easier as the iso on my 5D MKII and 7D allows me to push it and still get pretty clean results…after a little noise reduction in Lightroom. I shot this show with 2 bodies at iso 6400. The 7D had the UWA and the 5DII had the Sigma 50 1.4. Tribes put on a good show but it almost felt like they wanted a bigger stage.
