Musuem of Art, Philadelphia, PA, 9.1.2012 – Jay Z curated the first ever Made in America Music Festival on the grounds of the Museum of Arts in downtown Philadelphia inviting a diverse set of artists on Day 1 including Janelle Monae, D’Angelo, Maybach Music Group, Gary Clark Jr., Passion Pit, Miike Snow and more. I can give you 99 reasons to check out my photos including the headliner Jay Z below.
I usually write a little diary about shooting the show and lighting, etc. For the Made in America Festival it was HOT and humid out. It was a pretty smooth weekend as far as festivals go except for where they made us enter and exit the main stage. With some exceptions, we had to exit on the far side of the stage which left us as far as possible for a return back to the media tent. Put 30,000 people in between us and it was rough and ate up too much time.
The main stage was a decent height as far as festivals go and the lighting for the few shows after dark was great. These festivals always feel like summer camp for photographers. The first day is always exciting; you meet new people and learn the way of the land together. The final day feels like the end of summer camp; you know its almost over and have to say your goodbyes.
