Roseland Ballroom, NYC, 5.22.2012 – There might not be a band hotter than Alabama Shakes right now. And with some bands, this fervor is hype. But with Alabama Shakes the hype is all real. This isn’t a band assembled in an office in Hollywood. This is a band with talent from top to bottom. They opened for Jack White at Roseland Ballroom. I am sure most have heard of them, but I am not sure if most heard them before this night. This band is infectious, and I am sure they picked up about 2,500 new fans at Roseland this night. Touring in support of their freshman release, Boys and Girls, here are my pics from Alabama Shakes at Roseland Ballroom.
So when you shoot an opener, the opener needs to make due with the space they are given. Jack White was set up for his set and Alabama Shakes squeezed their set-up in so they could play. This means not much room for their set-up, and not much variety when shooting them with angles. Since they can’t move around much, most shots have each member in basically the same spot. Brittany Howard is an amazing vocalist (and guitar player) and doesn’t stop showing that emotion on stage. I’m looking forward to shooting them as the headliner. Are you listening Terminal 5?
