Terminal 5, NYC, 5.30.2012 – The Shins, the band that defined the Indie Rock movement, are back after a 5 year hiatus with their album Port of Morrow, and a new line-up. Here are my photos from James Mercer and The Shins’ 3 night residency at Terminal 5 in NYC.
This shoot was almost surreal. It was like The Shins called me in advance to go over the type of conditions I would like to shoot in. The pit at Terminal 5 was wider than I have ever seen it. There were 2 photographers in the pit that night and we kept looking at each other like “Is this it?”. And the lighting at Terminal 5, which can many times be plagued with heavy reds and over-saturated blues, was actually quite beautiful for The Shins.
