Music Hall of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY, 5.16.2012 – As a warm up to their upcoming tour in support of their new album, Handwritten, The Gaslight Anthem played Music Hall of Williamsburg, an intimate venue where tickets sold out in less than a minute. Die hard fans of The Gaslight Anthem were treated to a couple of new songs off the album, some older stiff and some covers. Here are my photos from the night.
If you know me or follow my work, you know of my affinity for The Gaslight Anthem. I kind of went to this show as a fan first, photographer second. Being able to see these guys at the Music Hall of Williamsburg is pretty special. Shooting there, on the other hand, is not as special. Music Hall is a great venue for fans, but not so great for photographers. The lighting is barely there and sort of boring. There is no photo pit so if you aren’t there early, you aren’t getting up front. And if you do get there early, you aren’t moving around much.
I decided to step back and not deal with the crowds at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. Instead, I planted myself in an elevated area, made a friend, and shot the whole show from right there. So maybe there isn’t a lot of variation in angles with this Gaslight Anthem set, but I made due. I shot this show at iso 6400 for the most part.
