Roseland Ballroom, NYC, 5.22.2012 – Jack White can do no wrong. And it has nothing to do with people giving him a pass. He’s done things his way from the start, and each decision has paid off. In his latest incarnation, he released a solo album and is touring in support of that album. But Jack White doesn’t tour with a band; he tours with 2 bands. On this night at Roseland Ballroom, fans of Jack White were treated to his all female band, a blues version of Jack White solo. And Jack White doesn’t use one stage like most acts would at Roseland; he came out for his encore on the Roseland side stage, much to the crowd’s surprise. Touring in support of Blunderbus, here are my pics of Jack White’s second night at Roseland Ballroom.
This set make you blue? These blue lights are hell on a camera sensor. I spent a good amount of time color correcting these and if you see anyone else’s Jack White shots, from Roseland or not, I think I did a pretty good job with them. The problem with these deep blue stage lights is they also take away form the contrast of the photos. Some can be corrected, but it will never be like real contrast straight of of camera.
Jack White plays with his band quite a bit, moving across the stage and interacting with band members. I was happy to get the ladies tonight since the night before at Roseland Ballroom, he played with his male band. The pit was pretty crowded and the photographers were competing with large speakers right inside the pit, monitors up on the stage and extra microphones since this show was live streamed to Sirius XM satellite radio. There are only so many obstacles you can avoid.
This show marked the 4th time I have been published on Rolling Stone this month. They ran one of the above photos with their review. Click this to see their review.
