The Wellmont Theatre, Montclair, NJ 10.14.11 – 25 years removed from the peak of her radio popularity, Cyndi Lauper is still performing like she did, well, 25 years ago. An artist who has evolved from a pop superstar to a musical one, she featured her hits from the 80s as well as her more current focus on the blues. For about 90 minutes Cyndi took everyone on a bit of a music journey infusing stories from past and present into her act.
I was disappointed when I got to the Wellmont to find out that this was a soundboard only shoot. And time after time (pun intended) I am reminded to just shoot and reserve my judgments until after. Cyndi was all over the stage, mic in hand, which made for a better than normal soundboard shoot. And while I would always rather shoot from the pit, shooting from the board wasn’t too bad tonight. Pretty much all of these shots were with my 5D2 or 40d with the 70-200 + extender. I did use the wide lenses for a couple of shots.
