Photos: Flaming Lips + Weezer at PNC Arts Center 7.28.11

PNC Arts Center, Holmdel, NJ, 7.28.11 – I have to give Weezer some credit.  The Flaming Lips stage show is legendary; space bubbles, confetti cannons, dancing beer wenches, guys in bear suits…its like a big acid trip.  To have The Flaming Lips open for a band like Weezer, they probably run into getting a bit upstaged.  Now, they either don’t care, or they can appreciate the fact that the crowd is very warmed up by the time Weezer takes the stage.

Now for the 2 shows local 2 NY, they decided to actually play one combined 3 1/2 hour set, switching back and forth throughout the night.  And Weezer front-man Rivers Cuomo not only embraced the stage show and space bubble, he actually got into one of his own.  This was the first time Rivers climbed into a space bubble to make his journey into the crowd.  One small step for Weezer….
