The Wellmont Theatre, Montclair, NJ, 7.12.11 – One of my favorite things about shooting live music is every once in a while I get to shoot a legend. This time it was Peter Frampton. Shows I shoot at range from punk bands with an active mosh pit to, on a night like tonight, a mostly older crowd for a seated show. But don’t get me wrong, beyond looking around at the general demographic, there was a good showing of young fans likely at their first Frampton show, as well as 30-something music lovers who know not to pass up their chance to see a legend. But mostly, you look around and can imagine the same crowd with the same performer a few miles away at the Capital Theater 30+ years ago. And obviously Frampton hasn’t lost a step in 30 years.
