Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY 6.20.11: I’ve seen about 50 bands in the past year.  Acts that range from Tom Petty to Bon Jovi to The National.  Foster the People is a band that has been on my radar since December.  Their first release wasn’t out yet but I knew this was a band I wanted to shoot.  Of the 50 bands I have seen in 12 months, these guys are easily in my top 5 shows from this past year.  I hate calling any show “the best” so  I’ll leave it at that and tell you to check them out.

I never drive to Brooklyn to shoot a show.  I was glad I did, even with the conditions I was shooting in.  The Music Hall has no photo pit so I got there early knowing there would be a packed house.  I set up on a raised area on the side of the stage and knew there wouldn’t be much variation in my shots.  The lighting was terrible.  If you look closely you can see the raccoon eyes caused by the overhead lighting.

With a late May album release and 2 NYC shows sold out before the album hit the shelves, they played a set that bounced between mellow & happy to upbeat and energetic.  They come back to the area September of this year for a show at Terminal 5.  There is a pit there, and good lighting; hopefully my schedule allows me to shoot them again.
