Asbury Park, NJ, 6.3.11 – Umphrey’s McGee is a tour heavy band with a loyal following. But it was easy to ask their loyal fans to come down to the legendary Stone Pony on a beautiful late spring night to watch them shred it on the outdoor summer stage.
Umphrey’s McGee is one of those bands that photographers love. They usually allow you to shoot more than the standard first 3 songs, and their lighting designer, Jeff Waful, gives you every opportunity to get creative shots. His lighting simply rules. But with a curfew on the outdoor summer stage, Umphrey’s took the stage at 7:30pm, which, in June, means about another hour of light. I waited and waited for the sun to go down and managed about one song at the end of the first set to really take advantage of their lighting.
