Photos: Neon Trees at Madison Square Garden 10.25.11

Madison Square Garden, NYC, 10.25.11 – This was my second time shooting Neon Trees.  The first time was earlier this year when they opened for My Chemical Romance and I shot them by chance.  The band, and Tyler especially, blew me away.  This time I made sure to cover them when they opened for Duran Duran at Madison Square Garden, and I didn’t shoot Duran Duran.  So many bands open at MSG and kind of get lost in the size and scope of the arena.  Not Neon Trees.  Their presence says “we belong here” and if you think we don’t, we’ll prove you wrong.

Nothing much to complain about for this show.  I was looking forward to shooting Neon Trees since I saw the announcement of this show at MSG.  The band, and especially Tyler, gives you a ton to work with.  You will likely miss more that you get if you aren’t on your toes.  Almost the entire show I shot with my 5DII and 24-70 combo.  The lighting was great.  When I shot them at Terminal 5 I was plagued with heavy back-lighting and constant strobes so you would miss shots that just didnt eexpose properly.  The lighting here was much more even and made for a great shoot.

Nice shots. I also shot Neon Trees when they opened for Duran Duran in Baton Rouge, La. They offered much more to work with – great stage presence and very expressive! http://www.msbphoto.com/concerts/neontrees

I gotta agree. Tyler Glenn has an amazing stage presence.
