USS Intrepid, NYC, 8.11.12 – Stephen Colbert threw his second annual Stephest Colbchella on the USS Intrepid, his own version of a rock festival.  The festival will air all week in parts and includes acts like fun., Flaming Lips, Santigold and Grizzly Bear.  The weather people on the news channels were calling for apocalypse type of a forecast, but after a big storm early afternoon, the skies cleared up and the 1,500 lucky fans in attendance for Stephest Colbchella ‘012 Rocktaugust were treated to a beautiful night on the Intrepid.  With skits that included a life-sized game of Battleship with Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert dressing an intern as a lightning rod and Stephen climbing into a space bubble along with Flaming Lips front man Wayne Coyne, the night mixed music and comedy to keep fans excited.  Check out my photos from Stephest Colbchella ‘012 Rocktaugust by clicking through the link and check out the show all week on Comedy Central.

This was a super long day.  I was there well before the 7pm start time and the way the show was designed, along side some technical errors, I did not walk off the Intrepid until 1am.  I was getting cranky around 10, bitchy at 11 and if I was with anyone I knew they likely would have thrown me into the Hudson by 12.  But at 12:30 my crankyness left as it was announced that Stephen Colbert would climb into a space bubble along side Wayne Coyne to say goodbye to the TV cameras.  In golf, you can have a terrible 17 holes, but its that last shot on 18 that makes you want to come back.  Well, Colbert in a space bubble was that shot for me.
