Photos: Ray Lamontagne at Rumsey Playfield, Central Park, NYC 9.26.2011

Central Park, NYC, 9.26.11 – After days of gloomy, rainy weather, Mother Nature decided to grant NYC a perfect night to sit on a blanket and listen to Ray Lamontagne on the lawn of Central Park.  Returning yet again a few months after his last stop in Central Park, Ray and his Pariah Dogs mesmerized a sold out crowd at one of the last shows on the Summer Stage for this season.

I’ll start by saying I am a huge Ray Lamontagne fan.  I have multiple titles on vinyl and nothing makes me happier than throwing some Ray on sitting by the pool on a Sunday afternoon.  But Ray is on the shy side, and this causes him to not like photographers much.  We were allowed to shoot 2 songs, and not from the photo pit, but from the fire lane on the side of the stage about 50′ back.  And Ray purposely lights himself dimly as not to put him in the spotlight.  These are all things that make shooting him very difficult, and quite boring.  With a photo pit you move around.  You get angles you like.  You move to use the lighting to your advantage.  With these conditions I basically had to put my camera on ISO 6400, snap a few pics and head over to the lawn to enjoy the rest of the show.
